Oliver Observing Station on Chews Ridge

The powerful astronomical telescope owned by MIRA (Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy) is perched high on Chews Ridge, about 20 miles SE of Carmel Valley and just before Tassajara Monastery, to escape atmospheric pollution and light of civilization.

The vibrant coast communites of Carmel Valley, Carmel, Pacific Grove, Big Sur, and Monterey are an hour drive, or less, from Albertola Estates.  Some of the best dining, local artisans, marine biology, hiking and beautiful beaches are in this area.  The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of my favorites.

Local Wineries and Vineyards

Driving to Albertola Estates from either turning off Highway 1 and driving east through Carmel Valley, or driving east on Hwy 102 through the Salinas Valley, and turning west on the Arroyo Seco Road will pass you by local vineyards and wineries, most of them small and family owned. These vineyards are beautiful to view and the friendly wineries feature tastings that are delightful to attend.

Wildernesss and Nature: Hiking, Swimming, Camping

Albertola Estates is surrounded by beautiful views of unspoiled wilderness, forever safe from development.  Nature lovers will be close to many great hikes, campgrounds, and swimming holes.  Just a mile away is Government Camp with river access and a great hike to The Gorge swimming hole.  To find out more look up Los Padres National Forest, Point Lobos, Pinnacles, Ventana Wilderness.  For nearby boating, fishing and swimming check out Nacimiento Reservoir, San Antonio Dam, and the afore mentioned, Government Camp.

Local Farmers' Markets

The Salinas valley has long been acknowledged to be the richest agricultural region in the country providing amazing local produce, artfully presented by the many farmers markets in the area.
